Tamarack Ski Resort
Saturday, February 11th, 2006Tamarack ski Resort is located in Central Idaho, 90 miles north of the capital city of Boise. The ski resort is nestled up against the Frank Church Wilderness, which is the largest wilderness area in the continental states. The resort is named for the small forest of Tamarack trees that lay on the north side of the mountain. These unusual conifers turn a gorgeous gold during the fall, lose their needles during winter and then grow their covering back when spring arrives.
The ski resort is open year round and offers a variety of outdoor activities. In the summer, fall and spring, there is hiking, biking and boating in the nearby Lake Cascade, which boasts 3 bird sanctuaries on its shores. Nearby, there is also the Robert Trent Jones II Signature Golf course, set among ponderosa pines and preserved wetlands. During winter the vast wilderness is transformed by soft powder and the area has become a playground for winter sports enthusiasts.
